Projects 01 of 04 · Industrial and manufacturing

Eighteen factories, and not one of them the same shape.

From a 75,000 m² automotive park to a single packaging workshop. What changes between them is the crane, the process and the floor — and the frame follows, not the other way round.

What a factory asks for

Five Things the Frame Has to Answer To

A workshop is not a box with a roof. It is a frame that has already agreed with a process — and the process usually wins.

01

The crane

Duty class, hook height, runway length and the wheel loads they produce. Two sheds of the same area with different cranes are not the same building, and the column decides which one you get.

02

The process load

Mezzanines, suspended plant, vibrating equipment, tanks sitting on a steel floor. Every one is a point load that has to be in the model before the frame is sized.

03

The floor

Slab thickness, joints, drainage falls, and the flatness a forklift or a racking system actually needs. The steel frame sets the columns; the floor sets whether the building works.

04

The next phase

Most factories we build are one phase of three. A bolted joint that can take another bay later costs nothing now, and saves a rebuild in five years.

05

The services

Sprinkler mains, ducting, cable trays, compressed air, dust extraction. They hang from the same purlins as the roof, and they are the first thing to collide with a brace.

Before we size it

Six Questions We Ask Before Drawing a Factory

None of them is about steel. All of them decide how much steel the building needs.

01

What runs on the floor

Machines, lines, furnaces, presses. Weight per square metre is the first number that changes everything else.

02

What hangs from the roof

A suspended conveyor, an air-handling unit or a monorail turns a roof into a loaded structure. It has to be declared, not discovered.

03

How goods come in and go out

Docks, ramps, door widths, turning circles for a 12 m trailer. The traffic decides the layout before the span does.

04

Where a column must not stand

One column in the wrong place stops a line. Tell us the aisle and the clearance, and the span follows from it.

05

What phase two adds

Another bay, another crane, another floor. Reserved capacity is cheap; a rebuild is not.

06

How the roof will be maintained

Walkways, fall protection, and a safe route to the plant on the roof. Designed in, it is a detail; added later, it is a cost.

Send the Process Layout. We Will Say Where the Columns Have to Be.

A layout, a crane duty and the site is enough for a first structural answer — and for telling you which of your assumptions costs the most.
